My question is that im not entirely sure on is making him a full on druid. A give or take character that feeds plant life but is carnivorous to enemies. Would this build be to powerful or is their a way to somehow improve the druid aspects cause i intend to make him the most annoying cosmic hippie before a coming campaign

    While I'm mostly excited for weapon masteries, I have gripes with two of them. 1. Graze - what happens when you apply a poison (like purple worm poison) to say a greatsword? Does a simple scratch apply the poison? If yes, then you can apply the poison on every attack, regardless if you hit or miss. 2. Nick - If you use 2 weapons with the nick property, you get no mechanical advantage. Characters that dual wield scimitars or daggers are weaker than someone using a shortsword and dagger for instance. They've already confirmed that using the nick property doesn't mean you can also use your bonus action for another offhand attack. I think using 2 nick weapons should bypass that restriction.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos 7 часов назад

      Ohh these are interesting observations! I feel like the poison would only activate on a hit, sadly (just a guess here). And the you only need one nick weapon to get the benefit of freeing up your bonus action so it's basically a free extra chance to hit for sneak attack, smite, or something like it. I think it's worth it!

      In one of the interviews Todd Kendric asked if you could throw three daggers and JC said yes with no pushback. Sometimes they do mis remember their own rules though. The mastery I have an issue with it, and it is entirely pacing issue, is topple. A saving throw every attack is going to get tedious. Using some like their Con score instead of rolling might help but that means some monsters are always going down and some are always standing but maybe that's OK.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos 2 часа назад

      @@XanderHarris1023 you have an excellent point about the saving throw here. I’d thought about that as well but I’m not sure how you’d solve that because topple without a save seems pretty strong.

    Fighter is broken. In a bad way. It's one of the weakest classes both in combat and non-combat situations. Paladin deals far more damage, can tank more damage, have same defense, is a perfect support because of auras and can cast spells. Wizard bladesinger is just literal monster. Only good uses fighter could have is multiclass. You couldn't make good fighter without multiclass or taking some features. And even then that multiclass would be probably 3 fighter/17 wizard. But still let me remind you the fact that you should focus on your character right now, not his "potential". It doesn't matter if your multiclass would be infinitely powerful on 20 level if you would be too weak to survive on 5th level.

    That sounds like an absolute nightmare for DMs. I mean yeah it's cool for players and all but now every enemy has to be a miniboss or consist of 20 trashmobs. This makes encounters even harder to make challenging unless you give them all weird gimmicks like it's a jojo battle.

    trying to get this idea started: "bonus masteries" secondary weapon masteries that give mechanical bonuses to social/utility for martials, out of combat reflecting the class fantasy of being a world weary experienced traveled tactile gear-oriented veteran, mercenary, high class student, etc example: "Impressive" your weapon is so gnarly or fancy and you know how to wear it, some kinda bonus to persuasion and/or intimidation "Leverage", you know how to use this weapon to aid movement, bonus to difficult terrain and/or climbing out of combat, what-have-you "Surgical" some kinda of small HP heal out of combat give dedicated martials more relatable tricks outside of fighting cheers ❤ the channel!

      @@michaelcolon4162 My impression is that the video was speaking to a fighter's ability to switch properties on their weapons at will. I don't believe this was in direct reference to the base feature referenced in the rules glossary of the final playtest (which was a more general rule about ANY class that gets a similar ability). Treantmonk (who has a copy of the book) did mention that there are some reasons that they didn't go into more detail as well. This leads me to believe that there are other features that still utilize this core rule. But, regardless, it is playtest. So that may be gone as well and I could be wrong on my intuition here.

    Yea, no. I dont think that nerfing the casters is a good idea. Again, trying to balance casters with non casters is a silly proposition to begin with. I am not seeing the specific "balancing" that you are speaking of, unless you mean that there are more steps involved (or they just nerfed the spells into the ground...) Also having to KNOW the spells at higher levels seems WAY over punishing for Bards and Sor who tend to have very limited selections options (number of spells known). I dont know man, I think Pathfinder just made the who casting a lot worst, but then again, I think the same of most of their systems. I like crunch, options and etc, but a lot of there mechanics are baits and switches, particularly with the so called 3 action system which isnt 3 actions....and which adds penalties when you want to perform the same action but someone performing multiple different actions is less complicated and thus no penalty?? Not sure how that makes any sense.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos День назад

      I do have to say that I think I'm enjoying the OneDND approach of empowering martials better. Still, I do think pathfinder's approach makes spellcasting more involved and balanced compared to 5e. And, I also find that pathfinder's system makes me feel a bit more connected to the semantics of casting. Instead of just saying "I cast fireball", it forces me to think about what that actually looks like in their system.

    • @shadowmancer99
      @shadowmancer99 День назад

      @@ConstructedChaos I think that a lot of that flavor is a table to table/player to player thing. Most players dont want to be bogged down with a lot of non essential stuff. I tax my casters 30 percent of their share of the loot, and in exchange they never have to worry about spell components, half casters get taxed 15 percent. Its simple, makes casting have a material cost, but is simple and able to focus on other aspects. If players want to ham up the components, they can, but its pretty much fluff, and most dont. The One DnD martial improvements are a START of what they need to do but its at least a start. I think they should have gone harder on WM, and Monks not getting them is stupid and I am gonna fix that oversight.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos День назад

      @@shadowmancer99 I don’t disagree with you. But it’s hard to deny that the power casters have in 5e make it difficult to play a strong build without at least dipping spell casting along the way. I didn’t say PF2e has the best solution-only that it’s better than no solution at all.

    • @shadowmancer99
      @shadowmancer99 День назад

      @@ConstructedChaos Let me be clear, I start with the understanding that casters will be more powerful than martials. They just are. Nothing beats Wish. 1. Yes, I agree that there is a divide and that if you are playing for more than just casual fun, ie optimized even a little, than yes there is strong incentives to get other goodies on straight melees. And not all casters are made the same. I can make an excellent argument that Clerics are martial, and even Hexblades. So ya, if you are going to more optimized game, you do want to look at what other tools and multi class you can add to a martial. 2. Now Pathfinder nerfing the spells, and/or how casting is done however seems to be a non solution. Yes, its something that brings them down, but does it actually make the game more fun...maybe for those who like martials but at the equal or greater dislike of those who like casters. Hence, its not really a solution it just shifts who is upset. 3. So, like you, I think the One DnD is a BETTER approach. RAISE the martials with Weapon Mastery and options on the Barb Brutal Crit and Rogue Sneak Attack features. They didnt go hard enough in those classes, but there was improvement. And by hard enough, I dont mean everyone needs spell or supernatural abilities, but better scale their abilities to keep up with and excel in the jobs they need to do. They really failed the fighter by not tossing the Battle Master, and making that subclasses manauver feature core to ALL fighters for example. Is there a perfect solution, no. Because anyone who wants a perfect solution is going to violate the first thing I said, that casters are, will be, and should be more powerful than the guy swinging a sword. So the next best thing is to raise the sword guys options in appropriate and fun ways without falling into the 4e trap of "powers".

      It’s not wrong. You can see for yourself how effective this build is at punishing enemies for slipping past to attack the back lines. A tank doesn’t have to be a meat shield. Hello, exelent build idea and a nice video! I have a couple of pointers for anyone interested in this build. First you should start with stats of 13/14/13/8/9/15 instead of 12/14/14/8/8/15. This way after you add +2/+1 to CHA and CON, you get a better statistic. This is not game changing but may come handy. You also can't benefit from two fighting styles, so when reaching lvl 2 in paladin, you have to make a choice if you want to keep dueling or gain defense. You also wouldn't get a feat at level 19, since you took 3lvl of multiclass, but I may be mistaken on that one since I don't know the rules for multiclassing that well. That would be enough of my rules lawyering for today, have fun out there.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos 4 дня назад

      The problem is that you need a 13 STR to multiclass into Paladin! Also, you can definitely pick another fighting style--there is no rule against that. Finally, you DO get a feat at level 19 since it is your 16th level in bard. ASIs are tied to your class levels and not character levels.

    • @andrzejkowalski3578
      @andrzejkowalski3578 4 дня назад

      @@ConstructedChaos If you follow my stats, you actually get 13 STR. Difference between my recommendation and the one in your video is that I valued my race +1 bonus at 2 points in point buy system and you valued your +1 bonus at only 1 point. Since upgrading from 13 -> 14 is more expensive then 12 -> 13. There absolutely is a rule against using two fighting styles. Every "fighting style feature" has it. I quote: "You can't take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if you later get to choose again". Regarding feats at level 19 you are absolutely right, my mistake.

      @ConstructedChaos 4 дня назад

      @@andrzejkowalski3578 You're absolutely right about the stats! I misread your comment. However, you're incorrect about the fighting styles. I don't blame you, though. What it's saying is that you can't take the SAME option more than once. So I couldn't take the defensive fighting style twice for +2 AC. • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos 5 дней назад

      That's a very astute observation! The gopro5 (and every one after it I think) has a crop feature that allows you to crop into the image in camera and still export a high res image. I think we use the "linear" preset. This crops out those distored edges to a large extent. You can still see some on the very edge but not enough that it gets noticed!

      @@ConstructedChaos I should have mentioned to play as, I feel like a dunce! 😅 I still want people to have the option to play as a traditionally scaly Dragonborn if they want to, I just been wanting to play a Dragonborn that's a bit different from the vanilla ones. I was really thinking of adding 6 more Dragonborn phenotypes based on their skin coverings, but I'm going to speak of 2 other ones that I've been developing, 1 variant being a completely fur covered one that I like to call fuzzballs, the other one has neither scutes/scales, or fur, & is what I dubbed leatherbacks. The 4 other ones just have 1 combination of the 3 other three skin impressions. I'm also modeling mines after Eastern Asian style dragons instead of Western European dragons. Even been thinking about giving them optional superman like flight as a reference to Dragons in Asian folklore & how they can fly without wings. & I did got curious about checking Fizzbans(I hope I spelled that right)Dragonborn just to see what it's all about, & to see if there's some ideas that I want to incorporate into my Dragonborn. If you couldn't tell this is indeed ment for a homebrew, & I've been doing some idea mining. XD

    • @ThatBigRedBear

      @ConstructedChaos it just takes a lot of the fun out of being a magic user. Being able to solve problems with magic is kind of the point of magic. I don't know the spells very well in this game, but let's say nobody wanted to play a rogue and you knew you were breaking into a building, so you took an educated guess and grabbed a spell to unlock a door and a fireball to deal with whatever you might find inside. You open the door and inside you find.... a second locked door, well you Couldn't have possibly known that. You already have to guess what type of spells you might need for the day in a lot of games, but having to also properly guess how many of each spell you will need is bonkers. You are basically playing the lottery and the rare jackpot is actually being useful.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos 6 дней назад

      @@ThatBigRedBear I understand your point but having the solution to every problem all of the time makes a lot of other characters less impactful. Plus, I actually find it fun to work through challenges with creative solutions.

    • @ThatBigRedBear
      @ThatBigRedBear 6 дней назад

      @ConstructedChaos That is resolved by limited spell preparation and spell slots as a feature in general. You are never going to prepare a spell for every occasion and, evem if you get lucky and you do, if you open 3 doors, you done have any more slots for fireball. You are rewarded for making an educated guess about what problems you might run into either way, but your chances of being useful drop significantly when you need to also know the number of times you might need to solve a problem and take up several slots with one spell on a whim. The thing is, if you are using up an already limited spell prep slot for a spell to unlock doors when you have a rogue skilled out for picking locks, you are A) a jerk purposefully trying to outshine a fellow player and B) wasting a slot you could have prepped a spell in that solves a problem you don't already have a solution to.
